Sound Tech Tips for Travel

Making sure you have the right parafinellia when traveling is critical to making any trip smooth and enjoyable. One of the most critical components for me personally is ensuring I have the right media platform and plugs to accomodate my lifestyle choices. Or rather, which headphone will properly enhance my downloaded show for the perfect inflight theatre experience. I always decide which of the two headphones to bring in tow based on the flight time. If there is a flight longer than 3ish hours I usually bring my Sony Over Ear Headphones to make my listening experience not only noise canceling, but also offer me the ability to plug into the inflight entertainment if I find a movie that outshines what I’ve previously downloaded on Netflix or Amazon Video. These Sony headphones are amazing. Not only do they have amazing sound quality, pre-vetted by my ultrasound nerd bff in Germany, but they are also functional to boot. You can cup your hand over the left ear to shut the sound and noise canceling affect off to hear an announcement without having to remove the headphones. This has been so clutch for me when traveling by train, or even in the gate waiting to board a flight. If you’re engulfed in your 5th repeat of “Lostby Blake Rose or “Nue” by Clara Luciani, and you hear a faint intercom voice muffled in the distance. Just pop your hand over that earmuff you won’t miss your boarding queue or last stop on the train. Lifesaver I tell you! Plus, they are wireless, so you never have to worry about being caught on a backpack or chair again while enjoying tunes on the go.

If you’re not overpacked for a long trip, and the flight is under 3 hours, I usually leave the Sony’s at home and opt for my AirPod Pros. Just takes up less space in my carry-on bag. I typically slip them in my travel zippy pouch that I like to tuck in between my leg and the armrest next to me. I always keep an iphone charger, headphones, eye mask, melatonin, chapstick and hand sanitizer in here so that I don’t always have to reach for my bag under the seat in front of me, or in the overhead compartment when you’re in a pinch. Just keeps things more efficient, especially when traveling with a toddler. I find that the noise canceling on the AirPod Pros, isn’t quite as dramatic as the over ear headphones, so that’s why I usually only use my AP’s for shorter distances. But they’re nice to have for when you’re in a hotel room and you want to share a bud with your hubs and watch a movie in bed after your little hits the sack!

Just another fun tip for the road. If you plan to rent a car when you get to your final destination. Always pack an extra Apple iPhone charger with you. Apple CarPlay in rental cars doesn’t work well with aftermarket tech. Aymeric and I have struggled with this countless times, until someone at the Volvo dealership finally told us that after market brands don’t work properly with the CarPlay connection in vehicles. Once I made the switch, it was like night and day. So I always keep an extra one handy so I don’t have that dreaded sigh when I get in bed and realize my phone charger is still plugged into the rental car.
